| Three native tribes occupied the Nahuel Huapi area: the Puelches in the mountain grasslands, the Tehuelches along the eastern and southern shores of Nahuel Huapi Lago, and Mapuche who lived along the northern part of the Limay river up to Lanin Volcano. Their totems look to the east along the shores of Nahuel Huapi Lago.
